School Visits

‘Having a visiting author was an excellent experience for the children … they were all inspired to write their own stories when he left.’ -Tang Hall Primary School

I am now based in British Columbia, Canada, so I’m afraid I won’t be available for UK events.

I can tailor events to suit your school’s requirements and budget. A standard event involves a 40 minute talk, followed by a 15 minute Q&A and an opportunity to get books signed. During the talk we use interactive games to show why stories are important, what an author does all day, and how we can create our own plots as a group.

I also offer workshop sessions, usually taking place as a one-hour block in which students try their hand at writing and share their work with the group. We cover the essentials of story writing, including plotting, showing and telling in language, and creating characters.

If you’d prefer a more in-depth look at the craft of writing, or want a combination of talk, Q&A and workshops, I can also offer half day or full day courses, in which I can cover the basics of creative writing in more detail with one class, or work with multiple groups.

Rates

Costs for tailored events vary, so please get in touch if you want to figure out the best rate for your school.

Helping Out

Even if a paid event isn’t for you, I’m always available to take questions from teachers and students on Twitter. If you have any questions at all from your class about my book or being an author, get in touch on the links below and I’ll send a reply. I’m also open to arranging Skype Q&A sessions or short local events whenever possible.

You can reach me on Twitter or at apwinter3@gmail.com.
